The story behind the image
Yesterday I shared a black-and-white image of Markree Castle in Ireland where we stayed for one night in 1999. For that image I deliberately picked the black-and-white negative film. I think that this might do the beauty of the castle unjustice, because our experience was near perfect.
The receptionist had assigned a wonderful room to us – a large room in the center of the first floor that directly overlooked the garden. The view in the afternoon was already great. But I remember the feeling to be woken up by the rising sun in the morning, fully refreshed! My photo above shows our view after fully opening the curtains!
Seriously, how much better can it get?!
The same is true for the hotel, which had an awesome mix of age-old history and modern comfort. For example, there was a large wooden table opposite of the reception desk where countless letters were laid out for guests that stayed at the castle or would arrive soon. How nice! This was 1999 when the Internet was still not widely available, and wireless Internet was still a dream of the developers. Add to this the friendly and helpful hotel staff, and you know why it’s been a perfect stay.
Nice memories.
