The story behind the image

On our recent trip to Italy we visited Rimini. While the city is best known for its long, nice beaches where movie stars used to hang out, it has a very attractive historic town center. With every step you will come across exciting historic buildings, like the Ponte di Tiberio e di Augusto (from the first century, and still actively used as a bridge), the Piazza Tre Martiri which used to be paved with large rectangular stones (still partially visible), or the Arco di Augusto (built 27 B.C.). Movie buffs will know that Federico Fellini (1920-1990) was born in Rimini and find several references to his work around the city and in a dedicated museum.

My photo shows the old fish market (La Vecchia Pescheria) from 1747. Situated next to Piazza Cavour, it is one of the iconic places in Rimini. Here, women used to sell fish and the so-called poveracce (clams).

Rimini? So much more than the beaches!
