The story behind the image
Here is another stunning image of photographer Carl Haas who visited California in 1958 for a while. This photo was taken from Castellammare a small community between Malibu and Santa Monica. Its steep and winded streets are home to some stunning villas (including the Getty villa) and offer great views of the sea and coast. It’ sjust a few steps to Castlerock Beach. Admittedly, the way back from the beach is quite steep, but you can’t have everything, right? 😉
Carl Haas did not have the best weather when he drove along Highway 1, but when the sun came out for a brief moment and illuminated the villas on the hill, he took the opportunity and took this image.
Well done, Mr. Haas!
Today, there seem to be many more houses, and the highway is way more busy than back in 1958.
