The story behind the image

Here is yet another image of the large lot with photos captured in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

This image shows the new Opel Rekord P2 in 1961 parked on a road on the countryside near Saarbrücken in Germany, probably in the late afternoon or shortly before sunset. The sunlight already created long shadows on the fields right behind the car. The gentle hills in the back of the images are still brightly illuminated and almost fade away in the brightness.

As no people can be seen anywhere, there is no doubt that the true hero of the image is the new car gleaming in the last sunlight. And the photographer did a fantastic job to subtly highlight the car using just available light.

I love this image.

P.S.: Read more about the Opel Rekord P2 at Wikipedia (in German.)
