The story behind the image
During our long trip through Italy in 2000 we drove from Tuscany on the countryside towards south. We deliberately opted to not stay directly in Rome which would have been quite stressful and possibly chaotic with our own car. Also, we believed that Rome is the perfect destination for a city trip on a prolonged weekend (which we managed to do in 2005.)
So we passed the city in the east and visited the village of Nemi, directly at the Lago di Nemi, a vulcanic lake. The village has been appointed one of the most beautiful villages of Italy by the German magazine GEO Saison, and the editors were right! It had the true Italian flair that we were looking for – without the buzz of the large city which is just 30 minutes away.
Very, very nice!
