The story behind the image
Yesterday I shared a historic photo of four men who take a walk in a large park or state forest. That photo did not carry any additional information. However, there was a second image created in the same style and apparently at the same or very similar location.
It’s the image you see above. It shows a women with two girls, and this image carries a long handwritten note dated 5th August 1916. As location is mentioned Torgau. The lady reports in her note to her brother about the good time in Torgau – a worry-free period that was in her own words “the best time in my life so far.”
This makes perfect sense as the forest near Torgau was a popular destination for weekend walks for the wealthy people of the town (and for tourists as well.) Even more so as the world war was raging and people urgently wanted to forget the concerns over the war for a while.
An interesting insight into the life in Germany in 1916.
