The story behind the image
During our long trip through Italy in 2000 we explored the beaches extensively. Along the Adriatic Coast we found beautiful beaches that were mostly cramped with rentable umbrellas and sunchairs, all neatly arranged in arrays to cover almost the entire beach. We were happy when we found a Spiaggia Libera (literally free beach), so we could grab our towels, throw them into the sand and take a refreshing swim in the sea.
Every now and then, however, we found true gems and unspoilt nature. My photo shows such a gem: the Spiaggia di San Michele in Sirolo near Ancona. It is situated right next to Camping Villiage Internazionale Sirolo, an awesome premium campsite high above the sea and right next to two beaches.
We stayed for one night at the site, and this was our morning view.
Simply awesome.
