The story behind the image
Let’s take a trip back in time to 1960. The place is Zürich, Switzerland. It was as beautiful back then as it is today. This photo from an anonymous photographer looks from the Quaibrücke along the River Limmat with the historic churches Fraumünster and St. Peter.
The changes? Not too many. The buildings have been renovated over time, no question about this. But they are still more or less the same. The various adverts have gone, though. “Radio Philips” and “Philips Lampen” on the building in the middle (Limmatquai 16) – gone. “Cigarettes Laurens” on the building on the right (Limmatquai 5) – gone. But there is one pretty cool addition: Pier 7, a floating restaurant on the pier of Limmatquai 7.
The photographer, by the way, seems to have been in a hurry, because the image is not tack-sharp, just sufficiently sharp. But that does not matter at all. To me, that is. 🙂
