The story behind the image
This image shows a postcard classic: the dunes of the beach at the island of Langeoog in Germany. However, this image was shot by an ambitioned amateur, and so we are not too picky with the technical details. The sharpness, for example, is not good at all as there seems to be not a single point in the image that actually is focused. What’s more, it does not help that the sky has not been clear and blue but rather had to travel through some mist.
Then again, I am grateful that I actually can share a color image of the dunes at Langeoog. That’ sbecause this image is from the early 1960s, and there are not too many images from that period. Most images were still shot in black-and-white, and those color photos that survived are often affected by terrible color shifts and other issues. Not this image. Yes, it was lacking contrast but it still looks good.
And this is what counts. (To me, that is.)
