The story behind the image
Earlier today I shared an image of 1967 showing the Nouveau Théâtre de Luxembourg, shot from a coach. On the other side of the street was a bright red BMW 2000, and I remembered that I had seen this model not too long ago in Munich, Germany.
In fact, when we visited the BMW Welt in January, some of the cars were still decorated for Christmas. Just like this bright red BMW 2000 tii. The 2000 series was launched in January 1966 and quickly became a symbol of innovation and driving pleasure. The round front lights of the 1500, 1600 and 1800 had been replaced by a rectangle design. The tii variant was offered from 1969 and featured an engine with 130 HP.
The BMW Welt is well worth a visit, and it’s free! It is located right next to the BMW Museum and serves as a giant brand experience center, complete with showroom and delivery center. If you want to dive deeper into the history of BMW, the museum is a must-see, too. It covers the entire spectrum of the company, from the beginnings to current and future models and technologies. Time-limited exhibitions illustrate special-interest topics, e.g. the influence of Italian designers on BMW and cars in general.
Exciting.
P.S.: Never mind the red Christmas ball that has dropped from the tree on the right. 😉
