The story behind the image
Liguria in Italy rocks! Many beautiful towns and villages have been built along the rocky shoreline, and you can even conveniently visit them by train!
In this image from a trip to Liguria, our photographer stayed in the early 1960s in Bordighera, and he also made an excursion to Varazze, roughly 120 kilometers east of Bordighera. Along the way he also passed Cervo, a town with a hisoric center that is situated on a hill. At the top of the hill is San Giovanni Battista, a strikingly beautiful baroque church.
This photo was probably taken from the waiting train as the tracks seem to pass right below the photographer. Also, if he had had more time he might have considered finding an angle that would get rid of the stuff at the bottom of the image and the power lines at the top, like this:

But I believe he did not have the time and made the best from the situation. He pulled down the windows and captured the stunning view.
Interestingly, the street has not changed significantly over the past 65 years. Okay, the Shell petrol station is gone, and that building has received a twin to the right, but most of the buildings are still as they were back then. Just look up the street voiew of 74 Via Aurelia, Cervo (IM), Italy on Google Maps.
Looking at the Streetview images also shows how cool the position of the photographer (inside the train) actually was. From the Streetview images you cannot see the hill with the church at the top. You just see the buildings surrounding the street. O the train however, high over the tracks, our photographer had an almost free view across the hill!
Go figure.
Have a great weekend!
