Bagni Jolanda, Italy, 1960s

The story behind the image

Yesterday I shared two images of Bordighera (IM) in Italy, which is apparently a beautiful place. Within the set covering the trip to the town I discovered this image of an entry to the Bagni Jolanda, one of the countless private beaches along the Italian coast.

Now, I did not find a reference to that name in Bordighera, but about 120 kilometers to the east, in Varazze (SV), there was (and still is!) a Bagni Jolanda. So I tend to believe that the photographer did an excursion, possibly by train, and found this beach.

There are some historic images of Bagni Jolanda, and this one is another confirmation for my assumption because the font used for the sign looks very similar to the one on the photo above.

The windmill is strange, though. Maybe that bagni had many guests from The Netherlands? Or was it just part of a cool play park for kids?

Who knows, but the more I discover about the area, the more I like it. 🙂

Have a great day!
