The story behind the image

Okay, I admit that upon first glance, an empty train station hardy qualifies as a ‘cool and inspiring’ image.

Not so with the train station of Bordighera in Italy! Take another look: the station has been built really close to the sea. So close, in fact, that it just takes you a few steps to the beach! And the train tracks closely follow the coast line for some time.

It has not changed that much, and it is still fully active today, serving the Genoa–Ventimiglia line, with frequent Trenitalia regional and Intercity trains connecting to major destinations including Ventimiglia, San Remo, Nice, Monaco, and Genoa. It is a reliable, central stop on the Ligurian Riviera line.

Very nice.
