The story behind the image

A couple of weeks ago I alreadyy shared a few images from an airshow in Germany that took place in or around 1962. Here is another gem from that collection.

This image shows a Volkswagen Beetle that has been transformed into a truck by replacing the entire back section with a platform. The car was probably serving the airfield as a Follow-Me-Car and shuttle for pilots, passengers, and baggage.

Here, the driver and his beautiful companion have a pilot on the platform, and this pilot is really looking like stepping out of a WW 1 double decker plane. Apparently, the group of three is in a very good mood, and the photographer did an excellent job capturing the moment.

I think this is an exciting snapshop of the past. The recovery of this image, by the way, was easier than I thought it would be. But see for yourself:
