The story behind the image
This image is from the family archive and was shot by my mother during one of her many stays at riding stables in Schleswig-Holstein. Sadly, she did not provide further details, i.e. no place, no date, no names.
It’s just the friendly stable boys and horse grooms as they enjoy their after-work beer, apparently in a good mood. The photo appears in a folder with horse-riding images from 1958 to 1961, so it is fair to assume that it was 1959 or 1960 when she took the photo.
I like the image because it shows real people in an (almost) real situation. It is easy to envision how the men stood or sat there on the straw bales after the hard work of the day, chatting over their beer (or just silently drinking it.)
