The story behind the image
In 2022, we decided to visit San Marino, a tiny country situated within Italy, not far from Rimini. We drove to the parking lot at the valley station of the Funivia, the cable car that brings you directly to the historic Città di San Marino on top of the mountain. You can enjoy spectacular views in all directions as well as rather quiet (for the lack of traffic) walks through the historic town center and along the walls of the fortress. Several shops offer reasonably priced jewellery, watches, clothes, and souvenirs.
You can only guess my excitement when I came across this image in a large lot I purchased recently. It shows the historical skyline of San Marino – in 1958! And the only significant change is the parking lot in the lower left corner. When we visited the town, it was packed with (modern) cars. Back in 1958, the situation seems to have been much more relaxed.
Anyway, if you’re visiting the area, we definitely suggest a side trip to San Marino.
