The story behind the image
Early in spring 1999 we travelled to the magnificient Lago di Garda in northern Italy for a long weekend. We also explored the towns at the eastern shore of the lake.
In Garda I took this photo of the Albergo Vittoria. Obviously it had seen better times, and the warm light of the sun did not help disguising the bad state of the building. The neon sign was damaged, the walls needed more than just paint, and the window blinders were broken.
It is an interesting shot.
Especially when you consider the beauty of the hotel today. Apparently, between 1999 and 2011 the hotel has been completely renovated. Today, it looks stunningly beautiful again and has a 4-star rating.
Well done!
