The story behind the image
Today is the 17th February 2026. Around this time of the year the German carnival season (which is called Fasching over here) reaches its peak. Yesterday, the big parades took place along the rivers Rhein and Main, but also elsewhere. Today, the giant party continues. This is true for Munich in Bavaria as well. There certainly is a small, but very active community of party-goers in Munich who celebrate the so-called Fifth Season.
So I pulled this image from the archive, showing an awesome group dressed up as crew members of fictional airline Promilla Airways. I met them on the Viktualienmarkt in Munich while shooting a number of press photos of the party and the costumes.
I really liked this group which was – in my view – the best of all the costumes I had seen that day. The idea was creative, their outfits were spot-on with a lot of love for the details, and the mood was fantastic. They even had an original aircraft trolley to serve drinks. How! Cool!
A nice press photo and memory.
