The story behind the image
The other day I told you the story of an old Ivory-ranked house in Plettenberg, Germany, and why it had to give way to a large highway bridge.
Here is the reason why the bridge had to be built: the level crossing with barriers in Plettenberg. From the 1960s to the mid-70s, the traffic on the street had increased to a level that it really suffocated the town, especially when trains were coming.
Back in 1961, when this image was captured, there was obviously less traffic. The photographer captured a beautiful view of the train crossing. I love the tiny car (a Fiat 600) and the majestic Hotel Ostermann which was built in 1873. The image tells the story of the slow life of a small town on the countryside.
Of course, the construction of the huge bridge changed also this part of the town. Today, the train crossing is gone. The Hotel Ostermann is gone, too, but the building still exists. And it has an exciting story of its own (in German.)

Lovely.
