The story behind the image
Here is yet another image of the 500+ slides shot in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
This image shows the wife of the photographer next to a Opel Rekord P2 at a car dealer in Saarbrücken, Germany. There are several new P2 models without number plates and the black one which already has a registration. There is a Volkswagen Beetle, too. The lady wears a fur coat. You can read more about the Opel Rekord P2 at Wikipedia (in German.)
From other images I am pretty sure that this is the car of the family, and it is very likely that they picked up their new car as there are no signs of use. In fact, it looks like the wine red P2 on the left.
The car dealer, by the way, was Autohaus Dechent. It is nice ot see that they are still in business and seem to do well. What’s more, the main building and showroom has been reconstructed and extended over the past 65 years but the core of the building is still used today. The shape of the windows on the first floor and the concrete pillars are a clear evidence. The overall look today is much more modern, though.
Very, very nice.
The original image was shot on Peruz Color Film and has developed a brutal red-orange shift over the past 60 years. Fortunately, I could recover the colors and come closer to what it must have looked like in the 1960s. Here is the comparison of the slide as it looks today, and its edited version:
