The story behind the image
Rimini in Italy is best known for its long beaches and movie celebrities, and its historic town center is very attractive and well worth a visit.
This image (from the large lot of slides I acquired last week) shows a lady – Erika – next to the (small) sailing yacht ship Tresette at the beautiful Porto Canale in Rimini. In the back the Rimini lighthouse is visible.
I don’t believe that the yacht actually belonged to Erika and her husband; they probably just admired the ship and wanted to get a nice maritime photo of the harbour.
What I like most in this image are the many small fishing boats on the opposite side of the Porto Canale. While Rimini is still a working harbour, the size of the ships has increased significantly since 1958.
This slide, by the way, is of exceptional quality. I had to actually break it out of its glass frame (to avoid the dreaded Newton rings when scanning), but once it was liberated, it required very little editing.
This is amazing considering that the slide is 67 years old at the time of writing.
