The story behind the image
Lake Como is an awesome place. It’s no surprise that some of the rich and famous flock to this place. It is stunningly beautiful, has the charms of Italy and is surrounded by the hills and mountains of the Alps.
In the big lot I acquired a couple of days ago there are several images covering Lago di Como in the early 1960s, including this image of a traditional water taxi as it speeds across the lake. There are several people – possibly locals as well as tourists – in the back of the boat, both inside and outside of the cabin. A lady at the back takes a photo of the boat of the photographer.
The water taxis, by the way, are still around, and you can call them anytime (but they are more expensive than the public passenger services.)
Anyway, I love this image (despite the weird red/magenta spots on the slide.)
