The story behind the image
On my hunt for interesting photos of the past I came across a brutally cheap but sufficiently large lot of more than 500 colors slides from the 1950s and 1960s. OK, the price had one disadvantage: the parcel had neither been packed with great care nor was the logistics service very gentle during transport.
My photo above shows the contents when I opened the parcel. I was shocked. Some of the slides had fallen from the open magazines, some slides where even stuffed into the gaps between the magazines as filling. Very few slides in glass frames seemed to be broken.
But honestly, I didn’t mind. Seriously, what can you expect from a lot where each image costs 0.075 Euro (including shipping)?
Once I had recovered from the first shock, I dived into the images, and this, dear readers, was exciting.! The slides seem to be of a high technical quality covering a wide range of topics. Travel photos from Italy, Germany, and France, as well as air shows, dog races, and a visit to a zoo. There are some beautiful portraits and a couple of family photos. Apparently all images come from a single source which makes it even more interesting.
Over the next couple of weeks I will hand-pick what I consider the most interesting shots and publish them here.
Stay tuned.
