The story behind the image
Here is a nice portrait of my grandmother Edith Schweim (1905-1966) and her daughters Inga (my mother, on the left) and Editha.
The image was shot around 1960 in a forest near Kiel in Germany. As my mother wears her riding clothes and looks quite confident it is well possible that it was after a successful horseriding competition.
Anyway, I like it a lot as it shows a lot of harmony. Following the death of her husband Otto (1894-1956), the small family had been going through a tough time. They sold the house in Kiel Wik and moved closer to the city center, and Edith and her daughters missed Otto a lot. Especially Edith felt quite lonely after more than 30 years of marriage.
This photo proves that the three ladies were slowly getting through these dark times and were recovering.
I love it.
