The story behind the image
While the winter is showing its power with a lot of snow outside, I think it is okay to dream a bit of the summer.
This photo shows my mother during a boat trip on the Baltic Sea near Kiel. You see, my father had acquired a motorboat license in his spare time, and every now and then he rented a boat, inviting the family for a day trip on the water.
My mother looks quite good on this photo. During the 1970s she had found peace. She was happy with her life, her husband and our small family. The economic situation had improved, too. At least the challenging times of the late 1960s were clearly gone.
In the summer of 1977, she had turned 35, and I love the fact that you can see her happiness in this image.
