The story behind the image
This image from the family archive was captured during a boat excursion along the Weser river and the North Sea near Bremerhaven in Germany. Here, the photographer shot the general cargo ship Inge R.-Christophersen at a decent speed, probably as it approaches Bremerhaven.
Sadly, the photographer cut off the aft section of the ship. Apparently he was so excited to see the freighter so close that he got the timing wrong (and was releasing the shutter too early.) Anyway, I like the dynamic of the freight ship which apparently has a decent speed.
What do we know about the ship then? It was built by Nobiskrug wharf in Rendsburg, Germany, in 1940, was completed in Denmark in May 1942 and got launched as Karl Christian Lohse. In 1945 it got handed over to the British Ministry of War Transport. Several ownership changes took until it received the name it has on the image – Inge R.-Christophersen in 1954.
In May 1965, the ship was sold to Walter Ritscher for scrapping.
You will find a wealth of information when searching for IMO 5516096.
