The story behind the image
The main idea of this blog is to show images from the past, regardless of these times were better or worse.
Here is an image that I consider to show much better times than today – the Eisbach in the English Garden in Munich. It was a beautiful spring day, warm and sunny. At the southern tip of the park I looked for the Eisbachwelle, where the small river gets got really fast. So fast, in fact, that a wave formed that enabled surfers to practice their skills throughout the year, right in the city! The surfers waited patiently for their turn, chatting and admiring the ones who rode the waves. An action-packed scene that despite all the splashing and excitement was well organized and showed a lot of self-discipline of the surfers.
But – since the last cleaning of the river ground in autumn 2025 the wave would not build anymore. And where there is no wave, there are no surfers.
The good news is that the city of Munich, in conjunction with the Munich Surfclub (Interessengemeinschaft Surfen in München, IGSM), is already actively looking for a solution.

Let’s keep fingers crossed that they find a solution for the issue.
