The story behind the image
Over the past couple of days I’ve shared a few photos covering the Miniera Montevecchio near Guspini, Sardinia, Italy, in its 2010 state Here is another shot that shows the de-industrialization of this place – a panoramic view across the mining site. On the left you can see the Pozzo Sartori, center right is the building on the edge.
Looking at recent images by Google Streetview, it seems that the building on the edge has further detoriated. Today, even more of the surrounding ground has been washed away.
You can read more about the Mines of Montevecchio at Wikipedia.
Apart from the (former) mining activities and the sad leftovers, the Costa Verde is an widely untouched eco-spot and well worth a visit.
