The story behind the image
Car ferries are perfect for saving a slot of time and money.
Take for example the simple passage between Corran in Scotland and Ardgour. Both villages are located at beautiful Loch Linnhe, albeit on opposite shores. Between them is a short stretch of maybe 0.3 Miles, which is so close that you are tempted to extend your arm to touch the houses on the other side.
Yet, this short passage that may take 3 minutes saves you the loooong way via Garvan and Fort William – a distance of 42 Miles that (as per Google Maps) takes you 1 hour and 17 minutes!
Compare this to the exciting (very short) cruise across Loch Linnhe. Okay, the ferry is not free for the typical tourist travelling by car, but a fare of (at the time of writing) £12.00 is not that expensive either. You will find the current rates here.
Having said that, the trip via Fort WIlliams is beautiful, so if you have ample time for this leg of your trip, do yourself a favor and use the road. 🙂
