The story behind the image
Here’s an interesting photo of Dublin’s oldest open-air market at Moore Street. Over the years, we visited the market several times, and in this image from September 1999, the weather was fantastic! 🙂
The market is located right next to the huge Ilac Store which has been revamped since then. A Bingo Hall had a large outdoor sign (center left), but it’s gone today. Other shops came and went, and Troy’s Family Butchers moved a bit up in Moore Street.
The market itself is alive and kicking today, and quite busy. It could preserve its charms, so it’s really a bit like diving into the ‘old’ Dublin. The market has its own homepage which shows the opening times and explains its history. What’s more, you can download the booklet The Stories of Moore Street Market by Clare Baker. How cool is that?
