The story behind the image
We had an excellent lunch at the Jägerwirt in Egling-Aufhofen, and went for a (short) walk afterwards to enjoy the fresh air and silence of the countryside. On our way back to the parking lot, we already heard the noise from a helicopter. It got louder and louder and – much to our surprise – the rescue helicopter from ADAC Luftrettung did a short turn around a nearby field and then descended quickly and landed safely, just a few feet away from us.
It was unlike anything I had imagined as the wind was so strong. I took my image, and after a few seconds I had to turn away because all the small objects from the field were blown up – some of these are visible in my picture, e.g. the pitch black object in the center.
Wow. Such an amazing power.
After touch down, the doors sprang open, and a rescure team hopped out and ran to a nearby house. Meanwhile the pilot had shut down the engine, and there was silence again.
What a stunning experience!
