The story behind the image
Sunrise time at the beach is almost always a safe bet for some nice (if not stunning) images. Here’s a sunrise I experienced last year in Grömitz in Germany at the Baltic Sea. Grömitz is a village between Oldenburg i. Holstein and Lübeck and has a long history as a beach destination.
That morning I took the camera bag and spent some time at the beach to enjoy the silence of the maritime experience. For this image I picked my workhorse, the tremendous Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens and selected an aperture of f/4 as the depth of field was already pretty narrow. I wanted to capture the seagull as a silhouette with the long sea pier and the dramatic clouds in the back – and it worked!
The image, by the way, is straight from the original JPEG of the camera with no edits whatsoever. I just resized and applied the watermark. (I still have the RAW but did not see any need for editing.)
Lovely.
