The story behind the image
Paris is known as the City of Love due its romantic atmosphere, beautiful architecture, rich artistic history celebrating romance, and reputation as a top destination for couples seeking proposals, honeymoons, or romantic getaways.
So it does not come as a surprise that you will find many places that express and visualize this feeling. And it’s not just the ubiquitous love locks, but also unexpected art in the public space.
When we left the Metro station Abbesses for a short hike towards the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur we took a few extra steps to the Square Jehan Rictus to admire an impressive artwork by Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito called Le mur des je t’aime. It is a huge wall of tiles that shows 300+ translations of the term ‘je t’aime’ (‘I Love You’). Wow. The German Wikipedia has a longer entry covering the artwork (in German.)
As it was a warm spring day, there were several tourists present but we could make our way to the artwork and also find the German translation: ‘Ich liebe Dich’.

A wonderfully inspiring place in Paris, the City of Love.
