The story behind the image
A while ago, I re-discovered analog photography with old cameras. It began by the desire to not just look at and edit photos from the past but to refresh the memories of the photographic experience.
So I purchased this Agfa Super Silette-L on eBay, and the camera came very close to my memories. But by now I know that I did not shoot with this camera as a boy in the 1970s. It was the Kodak Retinette 1B of my mother. However, I did not remember the Kodak camera when I purchased the Agfa Super Silette-L.
When the camera was delivered, I inserted a fresh b&w negative film – the excellent AgfaPhoto APX 100 – and started shooting. I did not shoot a lot of images, and when I realized that I was really looking for the Kodak Retinette, the excitement faded somewhat. So, it took me almost a year to finish off the film.
One day in April 2024 I took the camera to a hike near Aschau i. Chiemgau in Bavaria On our ascend to the Erlbergkopf I saw this medium sized farm building. The scene was a dream of blue and green. The red roof of the house added a nice contrast. How would that develop in genuine b&w? Well, it turned out to be just so-so, and not too exciting at all, I’d say. But the camera did a good job capturing the scene. 🙂
I present this image almost unedited, almost straight from the negative scan. The image is sufficiently sharp, the exposure is well-balanced, and there seems to be no dust, scratches or hairs on the image.
