The story behind the image
Recently I aquired this beautiful photo postcard showing a view across the Dieksee near Malente-Gremsmühlen in Northern Germany. A sailboat with two men approaches a pier close to a small beach. The postcard is undated and has not been sent, but the name of the publisher – H. Rubin & Co., Dresden-Blasewitz – indicates that this card was produced between 1920 when the company was legally founded (continuing the work of publisher Reinicke & Rubin) and around 1927 when it moved to Dresden-Loschwitz.
It is a perfect example for a “genuine photography postcard” as it provides superior quality compared to rasterized images or lithographies. What’s more, it is almost undamaged and required just very little editing. It is sharp and the tones are well balanced.
Earlier photos from the same location show that the small house must have been built after 1908.

One thing, however, has remained: For a long time this spot at the shores of the Dieksee has been a beautiful place for those seeking relaxation and rest. Even today, it is popular with tourists, a year-round destination for wellness.
