The story behind the image
The last few days before Christmas usually put me in a gloomy mood, because my mother died on the 22nd December 2004 at the age of just 62.
In the family archive I found a mini portrait series of her, shot in 1964 by Photo Gebhardt, one of the popular studio photographers in Kiel, Germany, at the time. (The studio has ceased business, sadly.)
1964 was probably the best time for her. Young and free, beautiful and energetic – determined to make her way through the jungle called life. 1964 was also the year before I was born, which threw her into really uncharted territory but she did manage these challenges, too.
This is how I like to remember her, and I thank the photographer for this awesome shot.
Oh, and over the next couple of days I am going to provide an insight into her life in 1963/1964 as I discovered her photos of the family appartment in Schillerstraße 13 in Kiel. Stay tuned. 🙂
