The story behind the image

My mother had always been attracted to art and artworks as her parents had collected a few paintings of artists living in Northern Germany. In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s she created a number of paintings herself, which I inherited after her death.

Today I share another one that I really like, showing a church in Bavaria in winter. It could be the iconic church St. Marinus in Wilparting but it’s hard to tell because countless churches in Bavaria feature this specific look (with an onion-shaped roof on the bell tower.) Typically she had been painting scenes from France (Bordeaux area and Paris) and Northern Germany. So this one is rather unique, and we really love it and we found a nice place in our home to hang it.

My mother died on the 22nd December 2004 at the age of just 62.

Thinking of you (not just) today.
