The story behind the image
Before touring Alsace I had never heard of the town Ribeauvillé. But we stopped here in the afternoon and walked around its beautiful historic town center. The city walls were established in the 13th century, and some some parts do still exist. Today, the town is best known for the surrounding vineyards, and it is a good place to enjoy tasty food with matching local wines.
The afternoon sun was already low and illuminated the buildings of the town while casting long shadows.
By the way, at the time of writing the mercerie – a haberdashery – in the building on the right (88 Grand Rue) was still operated by Anna Picot, but a note on her homepage says the shop will be handed over to Anaïs in January 2026.
