The story behind the image

This is the fourth image showing the large appartment of the Schweim family (Edith Eugenie, Editha, and Inga). After my grandfather Otto had died in 1956, the house in Kiel Wik got too big and too expensive. So she moved with her two daughters to Schillerstrasse 13, right in front of the popular Schrevenpark with its large pond and extended greens.

My mother took a number of images of the appartment in January 1963, probably using her brand new Kodak Retinette 1B camera she received on Christimas 1962.

I think this photo (and the mini series to come) is an exciting document that helps me understanding the way my mom and her family lived back then.
