The story behind the image

This photo from our family archive shows my grandfather, Otto Schweim. Sadly, I never met him – he died nine years before I was born.

This passport photo shows him a couple of months before he died. He had had survived the First World War, where he was serving in the German navy, met a beautiful wife (my grandmother), and together they became successful merchants and had two daughters. The family survived the Second World War. The rise of the family business continued after the war.

He died on 24th November 1956 in Kiel, Germany, at the age of 62.
