The story behind the image

This is my grandfather, photographed by my grandmother, Edith Schweim. Obviously, this image is from the family archive.

At the age of 54 he was settled. The family business was running well, thanks to the uptake of demand following the introduction of the German Mark as new currency in 1948. The kids were developing nicely. And, in the summer of 1949, when this image was taken, the family also moved back to Kiel, after five years in the makeshift-home in Malente.

And between all these activities, he even had time to spend the weekend at the beach in St.-Peter-Ording! Apparently he could not change into something more comfortable, but so be it. 😉

I wish I could have met him, but he died on the 24th of November in 1956 long before I was born. Thinking of you (not just) today, Grandpa.
