The story behind the image

Recently we visited the Leipzig Zoo in Germany. One of their huge attractions is Gondwanaland, a genuinue tropical rain forest presented in a huge building completely covered by glass.

We opted for a short ride on the small river that goes through the rain forest. While this meant additional cost it was well worth it. For about ten minutes we found ourselves gently gliding through the thick, wet forest. The tour has been designed with utmost love for details, and it came as close as possible to the reality of a real excursion.

My photo shows one of those beautiful details: A Mercedes G-Class truck that has been abandoned long ago in the rain forest and that is now proof for the ultimate power of nature and the short-sighted successes of modern (human) civilization. Moss covers the car and it is easy to imagine that it will be completely taken over by plants in a few years time.

The Lepzig Zoo – an excellent way to spend the day.
