The story behind the image

In 2022, we decided to visit San Marino, a tiny country situated within Italy, not far from Rimini. We drove to the parking lot at the valley station of the Funivia, the cable car that brings you directly to the historic Città di San Marino on top of the mountain. You can enjoy spectacular views in all directions as well as rather quiet (for the lack of traffic) walks through the historic town center and along the walls of the fortress. Several shops offer reasonably priced jewellery, watches, clothes, and souvenirs.

This photo shows the narrow and steep pathway Passo delle Streghe that connects the Seconda Torre Cesta (visible in the back) to the historical town center. Right below the tower you can spot the Passo delle Streghe, a series of narrow, steep stairs. The hills in the distance belong already to Italy.

If you’re visiting the area, we definitely suggest a side trip to San Marino.
