The story behind the image

Here’s an interesting shot along the Tauentzienstraße in the city center of Berlin, Germany. As prolongation of the Kurfürstendamm it forms the ‘High Street’ of the city with the prestigious KaDeWe (“Kaufhaus des Westens”, lit. “Retail Store of the West”) and countless stores of premium brands.

My photo shows the view towards south-east on a busy afternoon.

I opted to use the image “as is” straight from the camera with no edits made whatsoever, except adding the tiny watermark and saving it ‘for Web’ with a medium quality setting.

So, where’s the point, I hear you ask. This image is from a 2001 digital point-and-shoot camera, the Kodak DC 4800 Zoom Digital. That was a time when smartphone photography was still at concept stage! And I could pull a high quality image from the camera and use it right away. Just wow. It’s so sad that Kodak has stopped developing their digital line. Because this image is the proof that they got it right.

Of course, one may argue that the image is tiny compared to modern smartphones. True. But this was a different time, and Kodak nailed it with this camera.

So, I like this image. For the technology that captured it so vividly.
