The story behind the image
We drove very slowly from the Halali restcamp towards Okaukuejo that day, watching our surroundings for anything special. We noticed a several big birds gathering on the grassveld in the distance. We stopped. We pulled out the binoculars and the zoom lens. There were Vultures and Marabou Storks in the flickering heat as well as two fast-moving animals, possibly jackals or hyaenas? But the scene was just too far away for us.
But we decided to wait a bit longer. We had enough time, and who knows what might happen here later on?
Then we noticed a this blackbacked jackal on the other side of the road. He drunk from a large puddle but was looking around carefully every now and then. One moment he looked directly at me and I felt a shiver.
Scary.
