The story behind the image
We visited friends in Berne in Switzerland and went to the historic city center for dinner. It had been a warm day and temperatures were still cozy when we passed the Kornhausbrücke on our way to the restaurant.
The ‘Blue Hour’ was in full swing. The sun had set, but there was still sufficient light to illuminate the buildings, the sky and the mountains in the back. And there was a full moon over the city.
I had brought a tripod and did a long exposure from the bridge towards the eastern part of the city center. Clearly visible are the landmarks: the magnificient cathedral Berner Münster on the right and the smaller (but still impressive) church St. Peter und Paul on the left.
Of course, the full moon shows no details at all (as it was too bright for the long exposure) and looks more like a dimmed-down sun, but I like the snow-covered mountains in the back showing a light pink from the vanishing sunlight and the overall gentle light. The warm interior light in some of the appartments are nice, too.
An almost surreal impression.
