The story behind the image
In 2005 we spent two weeks on the beautiful island of Tenerife in Spain.
Upon our departure from the Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur (TFS) I took this image of D-ABUB, a Boeing 737-600. It was operated by the new brand “Thomas Cook powered by Condor” a fact that is reflected by a new paint and, especially, the prominent presentation of the Thomas Cook logo on the tail. But the new brand was facing turbulent times and ultimately filed for insolvency in 2019. As always, Wikipedia has all the details – a shocking yet somehow exciting story.
I like this image not just for the nice details of the plane, but also the wide Atlantic Ocean that is visible in the back.
The aircraft had been delivered to Condor in December 1992. At the time of writing, the aircraft is almost 33 years old, and it is still alive and kicking! It had been reconfigured as a freighter in 2020 (at the peak of the Corona crisis) and again reconfigured for passenger services in April 2021. In 2023 came the final reconfiguration as freighter. It is now showing the registration UK67019 and is operated by My Freighter. See its full history and more images at planespotters.net.
