SEPTEMBER 2000 – View across Positano, Italy, a town situated at the steep Amalfi coast. © Mark Zanzig/zanzig.com
The story behind the image
Positano is a jewel at the famous Amalfi coast in Italy. The town has been built right onto the rocks of the beautiful coast, and there are countless narrow streets and steep stairs that lead to the houses – and to the main beach. And this pattern repeats along the entire coastline. Small, isolated beaches can be found as well – but finding a space for your car is challenging!
My image shows the view from Positano’s Via Cristoforo Colombo where it meets the Strada Statale Amalfitana at the eastern entrance to the town. As you can imagine, we were more than just a bit disappointed that the weather did not play along too well on that day, and I’d love to return someday and spend more than a couple of hours at the coast.
