The story behind the image
Sorrento, the beautiful jewel just south of Naples, is very popular, especially with Brits and Americans, so be prepared to see some (fellow) tourists. And where there are tourists, there are tourist traps as well, especially within the historic town center, so just pass these.
If you want to enjoy a wonderful and tasty dinner, go for the restaurants at Marina Grande. Back in 2000, we found these restaurants to be way better than everything we were offered in town. What’s more, you’ll also get that unique experience of sitting next to a tiny but genuine harbour, and while you will definitely see tourists here, it’s not as busy as in the town center.
By the way, our camp site Camping International Nube d’Argento was right above the harbour, just a short (but steep) walk away.
I took this photo from the combined viewpoint and private car park of the Belair Hotel Sorrento at Via Capo 29. Gosh – I wish I’d be there right now and take a swim in that pool.
