The story behind the image

We had spent the night in Lake Louise and planned to slowly drive to Golden. Admittedly this is a short distance – just 83 kilometers! – but we knew we would not take the direct route as we had planned several detours along the way. First, we visited Lake Louise again, then we drove out to Morraine Lake before heading towards Golden.

Once back in British Columbia our first stop was at Takakkaw Falls, one of the most spectacular attractions in the Yoho National Park. It’s one of the tallest waterfalls, and the tallest of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

I personally love the fact that it has a patio of sorts at about 2/3 of the height. The water relentlessly splashes onto this patio before continuing its free fall into the valley. What a sight!

Add to this the beautiful surroundings, and it’s easy to see why people love this place (including myself.)

I also remember this place because I lost the lens cap of my 50 mm lens for this shot! I wanted to get as much of a side view as possible with some trees and the river in the front. It took me a bit of effort to get to the other side of the river and I was happy when I got there. I put the lens cap on one of the solid rocks nearby and capture several photos including this one. When I reached for the lens cap I briefly lost the balance for a split second but it was long enough to push the lens cap into the river.

Needless to say, it was torn away by the water quickly, leaving me no chance to get it back. 😦
